Work Rights During Studies:-
As per regulation students can work 20 per hours during their course session and fulltime during holiday or scheduled breaks

Student enrolled in Masters by research or doctoral degree can work full time.

Work rights for your spouse on student visa : –

As per regulation the spouse can work full time in New Zealand, but the dependent on students on visitor visa  do not have any working rights.

Post Study Work Rights (Open)

The following qualification falling under this category is eligible for Post Study Work Rights. (New Rules)

  • Students would be eligible for two year post-study open work visa on completion of their study Level 4 – 6 and non-degree Level 7 qualifications outside Auckland, condition is that study is completed by December 2021.
  • Students would be eligible for three year post-study open work visa for degree Level 7 or above qualifications
  • Students studying Level 8 qualifications to be in an area specified on the Long Term Skills Shortage list, their partner can be eligible for open work visa and their dependent children can also be eligible for fee-free domestic schooling

Bringing your family / dependent

Family including their spouse can join their sponsor i.e student who are in New Zealand studying towards a level 7 or higher qualification on the long Term Skill Shortage List or a postgraduate qualification and can also work full time.

Family including their spouse and dependent can join their sponsor i.e student studying a qualification of level 4 – 6  on a visitor visa for the same duration as their partner or parents’ stay.
